The Dark House

How many times have you heard the phrase, “Life Happens?”

Reflecting back to my to my childhood, I recall hearing this phrase, being loosely used by my Dad. Like an echo, in response to his own statement, you’d hear “Get use to it.” Pondering within myself, then watching angered look of frustration settle within him, was pretty scary.

We were all programmed. Once he arrived home from drinking, we encountered mood shifts and confrontations. Afterwards came his favorite quote, “Life happens, deal with it.” All verbal conversation, smiles and laugher would instantly cease. The paranoia and fear of us talking behind his back, plagued him everyday. It was all about control, it was like a light switch.

The white walls inside of the house went from sunshine to darkness. Silence filled the cold lifeless house. During the times of silence the three of us communicated with one another by whispering, using jesters and hand signals. My Mother would attempt to make a game out of it, just to ease the tension and stress. We were hostages, moving about the house as if we were walking on eggshells, in fear of awakening the terror. If walls could talk, they would have cried out for help, revealing many secrets…

No one deserves or ever has to accept abuse of any nature, at any age from anyone. If you or you know of someone who is in danger. Tell community service workers or local authorities.

Yonnie’s Words of Affirmation:

I am more than a conqueror.

I have a voice and will not be silenced.

I will Speak up!

I will Speak Out!

A wonderful post! You’re absolutely right, NO ONE deserves to be mistreated. Life doesn’t just happen, if we let God take hold of our hearts! The house may have been dark, but God’s love was the light shining within!

YOU ARE, valuable, beautifully, and wonderfully made by God; to be a conqueror! You have a voice, this is a voice. Continue to speak up, speak out; to help others to be free… to worship!

God bless!

To God be the Glory!
“Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.”

Very well written, I could feel the darkness and tension created by your father.
But God…

2 Corinthians 4:6
For God, who said, “Let light shine out of darkness,” made his light shine in our hearts to give us light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Christ. (NIV)

Where His light shines, darkness has no power. What a powerful testimony you shared.
May God continue to bless you and your family!

Thank you for reading and sharing your thoughts.
But God… is exactly right.
Each of us can reflect and find our own “But God” experiences, those moments…
Your words of affirmation which rest in the Word of God, 2 Corinthians 4:6, is right on point.

I come from a long line of alcoholics and addictions. I didn’t want to become how you described your father. Because I was well on that road. Praise God for getting our attention and saying it’s enough.

Thank you for sharing your experience.

I am speechless. But let me start by reminding you how strong and beautiful you are. Life tried to break you down and here you aren’t sharing your story. They all want us to keep it a secret but at some point of your healing process, you will realize that you can’t heal while keeping it a secret anymore. The Lord got you and He will never give up on you. Put your trust in God, let him take care of your past and make it the reason of your blessings and elevation. I am proud of you for sharing your story, it takes a lot of courage. YOUR STORY MATTERS ✊🏾👑 I am here if you need to talk 😊 God bless your heart ❤

I left the Dark house, after signing for my new Apartment on my 18th Birthday, a few weeks later my brother came to live with me. My Mother was a Woman of Faith, Love and Kindness who never meant a stranger. The Cancer was deteriorating her Health. Things didn’t become easier for my Mom or us when her health worsened. One day as I sat with her in my room, she sat up and said “Take me to the Hospital, I don’t want to die in this House. My was not home. Getting her back to the hospital was like a breath of fresh air. SShe Graduated into Glory two weeks later, after declaring “The Visitation of Two Angels,” at the Foot her Hospital Bed two days prior to her passing away . We physically got out of “The Dark House.” God allowed us to BreakFree❤️. Love and Forgiveness set us free! 💜
